Outstanding Community of the Year Award 2011

The Arkansas Urban Forestry Council named the City of De Queen as one of their Outstanding Communities of the Year for 2011. In recognition of the effort, dedication, and outstanding contribution in the promotion and development of the urban forest in the City of De Queen. The De Queen parks department was recognized for the work done on the Herman Dierks Creek Restoration project at the Forestry Council’s annual meeting held in Hot Springs, April 18-20, 2011. This project took over a year to complete with the planting of over 53 different trees and shrubs in landscape areas of the park. The mission of the Arkansas Urban Forestry Council is to enhance quality of life by promoting the benefits of trees and development of sustainable community forests through education, outreach, and partnerships.
